Abstract

Knowledge of personal hygiene is very important, because good knowledge can improve health. However, knowledge alone is not enough, children must also be motivated to maintain personal hygiene. Individuals with knowledge about the importance of personal hygiene will always maintain personal hygiene to prevent illness or conditions. Lack of awareness about personal hygiene, especially in children, can increase the risk of spreading disease which results in a decrease in the child's health status. The purpose of this activity is to provide an understanding of personal hygiene for children at PAUD Pelangi, the Office of Education and Culture of the Province of NTT, using counseling and question and answer methods. The results obtained showed that as many as 15 people (65%) of the 23 participants could answer the questions correctly. Most children get knowledge from teachers and parents. The results of the correct practice of washing hands with soap showed quite good results because of the 23 participants, 12 people (52%) were able to practice proper hand washing using soap and running water. Handwashing with soap can reduce diarrhea cases by almost half and respiratory infections (including pneumonia) by a quarter. This behavior also reduces the risk of other diseases, such as eye disease and skin infections. Handwashing with soap is clearly the most effective and inexpensive way of prevention, but many people don't practice it. Therefore it is necessary to conduct counseling on clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS), specifically how to wash hands properly with soap to further increase the knowledge and practice of PAUD Pelangi and Tiberias children.
